Bedford Youth Lacrosse Game Summaries

Girls U13A

The U13A Girls Team suffered their first setback of the season in a 10-5 loss at the hands of always strong Seacoast. Bedford trailed the entire game but displayed great fortitude in battling the entire contest. Jess Cloutier was again the backbone of the team defense and put in another solid effort between the pipes. Goals were scored by Sam Hornsby, Lauren May, Kayleigh Moquin and Kennedy Boyle. Emma Bizik, Rachel Larivee and Carly Caveny put in strong efforts.

Boys U11 Red

Bedford U-11 Red dominated quick, played a good portion of the game off-handed, switched up the defense and attack, and beat Timberlane 10-2. Goals were scored by; Gavin shilling, Ryan Bleakley, Reid Kirkpatrick, Stephen Simpson, Roland Bryan, Devin LaFrance, and Michael Etzo. Joe McHugh won multiple face offs in a row keeping the offense dominating while Danny Mundis had a phenomenal game in goal. Danny saved many 1 on 1 opportunities keeping the crowd on the edge of their seats. All in all Bedford stayed strong and played a solid game of lacrosse with many team members attributing to their success.

Boys U13B

The Boys U13B team travelled to Plymouth, battling to a tie in regulation play, losing 9-8 in double overtime. A valiant effort was made by all. Good defense from Ray Etzo, Sean Tierney and Cormac McCarthy kept the game closely contested throughout. Tucker Lavigne, Logan Major and John Valvo helpt to control the midfield. Nate John remained strong in net throughout. Scoring was led by Tucker Levigne and Colin Hendrickson. Cole Johanson and Justin Wiggin also netted goals.

Boys U15A

Bedford Boys 15A faced Seacoast on Sunday, May 16th. With 2 seconds left in regulation play, Bedford’s Pat Simpson scored the tying goal on a pass from Alex Astarita to force the game into overtime. Bedford eventually lost in double overtime, 6 -5. Bedford goalie Matt Howe had an outstanding game in net, turning away 21 shots.

Boys U15B

The Bedford Boys U15B team came away with two victories this weekend. On Saturday the team traveled to Bow to take a 12-0 victory. Scoring for Bedford were Tyler Sullivan (4 goals), Justin Irvine (3 goals), Nate Jaeger, Ross Burton, Mike Dee, Nate Boyd and Duncan Kirkpatrick.

Sunday saw the team travel to Weare to face John Stark United. Bedford held the opponent in check most of the game, coming away with a 12-3 win. Scoring for Bedford were Tyler Sullivan (3 goals), Matt Tetu (3 goals), Mike Dee (2 goals), Andrew Butler, Will Soghikian, Jake Laughlin and Tom O’Rourke. Dylan Mundis put forth an excellent showing in goal for the Cannons in both games this weekend.

Boys Rec

Team 5 came up short this week losing 10-6 to team 7 in a tough hard fought game. Ben Steeves led the scoring attack with 5 goals and Andrew Twite also added a goal. The offense was supported with strong midfield play by Ryan Bobotas who had two really good scoring chances himself plus added two assists. Will Detscher was also strong in his offensive support at middie with some crisp passing and Jared Bassingwaigthe added a shot on goal to aid the attack. On the defensive side fo the ball, Andrew Twite made some outstanding saves in net in the first half with solid support by both Jared Neikam and Zach Kearns.

Girls U13A

The U13A Girls Travel team overcame an early deficit and took control late in the 1st half on their way to defeating Amherst 9-7.  Jess Cloutier in goal kept Bedford in the game early as Amherst took a quick 2-1 lead on very aggressive play.  Bedford battled back and were lead in scoring  by Lauren May (2), Kennedy Boyle (2), and a goal a piece by Sam Caveny, Carly Caveny, Mandy Faxon, Zoey Shapiro and Kayleigh Moquin.  Sam Hornsby had a solid game on defense and Maddie Speaker and Lexi Tilton won many crucial ground ball situations

Boys U11 Red

No wind, cold or confusion over the same colored shirts could stop Bedford’s power against Derry. The U-11 Red beat Derry 14-4. Goals were scored by Roland Bryan, Reid Kirkpatrick, Charley Speaker, Gavin Shilling, Stephen Simpson, Zac Tucci, Brendan Joyce, Devin LaFrance, Jacob Rioux, Joe McHugh, Danny Mullen and Ryan Bleakley. Great passing, face-off’s, and determination sealed the deal. Charley Speaker led the board with assists coming up with 5 for the day. Strong goal tending by Jacob Rioux and Ryan Bleakley helped keep the opposing teams score down, along with continuous defensive strength by Max Marchand, Michael Etzo and others. The score was high but the play was intense, Bedford fought for and earned every goal!

Boys U15B

On Saturday the Bedford Boys U15B team traveled to Dover to take on Oyster River in the rain. In what appears to becoming a trend, Oyster River took the opening face-off and immediately scored on Bedford taking the early lead. Oyster River then played ball control for much of the first quarter until Bedford answered tying the game at 1-1. From that point forward the Cannons controlled the game leading to a 12-2 NHYLA league victory. Stifling defense by Tom O’Rourke, Peter Christafides, Andrew Biedermann, Trent Fortune, Billy Gamble and Jake Sonberg in goal turned back the Oyster River offense all day. Scoring for Bedford were Tyler Sullivan (3 goals), Matt Tetu (2 goals), Justin Irvine (2 goals), Sam Stanton (2 goals) Dylan Mundis, Mike Dee and Jake Laughlin.

Boys U13B

The Boys U13B team was unable to handle a determined Goffstown team losing 6-11.  Sam Richmond, Logan Major and Tucker Levigne played admirably in defeat.  Nate John was strong in net until he was injured.  His replacement, Cole Johansen, was also strong in net posting impressive save numbers.  Goals were netted by Colin Hendrickson, Logan Major and John Valvo

US Lacrosse NH All Star Program

US Lacrosse is again offering an NH All Star Program. This is a great program that promotes lacrosse , post season , at a competitive level . Lets get some NH players on the map . We would like to see these teams as competitive as possible . Please remember that US Lacrosse is allowing age eligible 9th graders to compete at the U-15 level .

All registration information is in the brochures for the U15 Boys National Championship Team and U13 2010 NH Boys and Girls All Star Program which will compete in the 12th Annual New England Youth Lacrosse All-Star Tournament.

Tryouts will be the first week in May so sign up now!

Bedford Youth Lacrosse Game Summaries

Boys Rec Lacrosse

Bedford Cannon’s Team #6 opened its season with shutout goaltending by Alex Bleakley; goals by Derek Moscillo and Anthony Bobo; and several groundballs by Joey Lupo and Evan May.  

Bedford Cannons Team #4 opened the season with a strong overall team effort against a talented Team 3. Midway into the first half, Connor Berry scored the team’s first goal, dodging defenders and firing a strong shot between the pipes. On Attack, Matt Giroux followed in the second half with a fast break to the net and a solid shot past the goalie for the team’s second goal. There were strong defensive efforts made by Kiernan Humphrey and Nate Jedow stripping the ball away from the offense gaining position of the ball for the team. Our two goalies, Cam Macdonald and Drew Fessenden stayed busy in the net stopping blistering shots. 

Team 5 started the season off in a learning format as much of the team is new to the game.  We were able to mount some exciting offense with shots on goal by Will Detscher, Ethan Van Heerden and Ryan Bobotas. This was backed up by strong midfield play by Zachary Verow and at the attack position by Nathan Verow.  On the defensive side of the ball, Team 5 had outstanding goalkeeping by Andrew Twite with 6 saves and solid defense by both Jared Neikam and Zach Kearns

Team 7 opened the season with excellent team-play allowing them to defeat a spirited Team 8.  Goals were scored by Connor Campbell-Diehl, Conner Murray, Jack Wolf, Will Jordan and Jed Heald with key assists contributed by Anthony Sanchez, Logan Jurnak and Sam Froio.  Logan Jurnak and Conor Mullin played strong in goal.

Girls Rec Lacrosse

Girls Rec team #4 started the season with outstanding offensive performances by Sophia Bemmis, Hannah Richmond, and Mykenzie Kyle, all scoring goals.  On defense there were stand out efforts by Corra John and Haley Froio .

We had some outstanding hustle on the field by Mykenzie Muir and Emmy Plage .  Great job playing Middie by Caroline DeLisle and Marissa Johnson – both played an awesome game.

Marrissa Johnson and Mykenzie Kyle shared the game in goal.

Boys U15B

On Saturday the Bedford Boys U15 team faced off against Timberlane here in Bedford.  The Cannons came out first, scoring two early goals. Timberlane answered the Cannons with their own two goals forcing a tie going into the half. Bedford responded after half time with four straight goals taking a 6-2 lead into the fourth quarter ultimately solidifying the victory 7-4.

Scoring was lead by Justin Irvine (Four goals) and Tyler Sullivan, Ross Burton and Mike Dee with one goal each. Assisting the goals were Duncan Kirkpatrick (two), Tyler Sullivan(two) and Dee and Burton with one each.

Defensively the Cannons played an overall solid game with Jake Sonberg and Todd Glynn sharing time in the goal.

Boys U15 A

Bedford Boys U15A Lacrosse opened the 2010 season with a pair of lopsided wins this weekend.  On Saturday, Bedford beat Groton-Dunstable, 17 – 1.  Bedford scoring included 4 goals by John Miller, 3 goals from Alex Astarita, 2 goals each from Dan Colella, Aaron Palys, John Karanasios, and Evan Tyros, and 1 goal each from Andrew Casey and Nick Vailas.  On Sunday, Bedford defeated Concord, 15 – 1.  John Miller scored 3 goals, Alex Astarita, Dan Collela, Aaron Palys, Grant Mello, and Mike Vailas each contributed 2 goals, and Evan Tyros and Andrew Casey each scored a goal.

Boys U15C

The Boys U15C team took opening game of the season by defeating Amherst 6-2.  Bedford took the early lead with goals by Michael Collins & Alden Skillings.  Mat Dyer & Ryan Wittenberg solidified the win with follow-up goals in the 2nd half.  Great offensive support by Marcus Graves, Sean Looney, Robbie Gawlowicz & Nick Demaio helped Max Whittaker & Michael Robinson in critical assists in each scoring play.  Solid defensive work by Austin Couture & Jeremy Pariseau kept the ball out of the Bedford scoring zone.  Chris Conery held fast in goal with critical saves during many Amherst scoring attempts.

Boys U11Red

Bedford U-11 Red played a stunning season opener defeating Amherst 13-2. Through impressive skills, teamwork and coaching Bedford came out and dominated from start to finish. This dominance was noticed starting from the first play and continuing all the way through. Bedford won the game opening faceoff with Brendan Joyce immediately attacking bringing the ball up and passing to Ryan bleakley for an initial save but Joyce recovered the ball fast passing to Gavin Shilling for the first goal of the season, and one of many goals for the day. Bedford continued their scoring rally with goals from: Joe McHugh, Reid Kirkpatrick, Stephen Simpson, Charlie Speaker, Brendan Joyce, Danny Mullen (2), Zac Tucci, Jacob Rioux (2), Stewart Kirkpatrick, and Ryan Bleakley. Jacob Rioux and Danny Mundis took turns successfully guarding Bedford’s net with the help of solid defensive play from Michael Etzo, Ethan John, Gavin shilling and many others. Bedford played a game to be proud of with consistent effort, skill, and most importantly team work!

Boys U13B

The Bedford Boys U13B team posted a season opening win of 10-8 against a relentless Cocheco team on the road in Dover. 

Nate John and Cole Johansen split time between the posts to limit Cocheco to 8 goals.  Chris Carlson, Ray Etzo and Paul Toscano played tough defense, holding off a late game rush by the Cocheco attackmen.  Logan Major, Sam Richmond and Tucker Lavigne worked hard to control the middle of the field.  Colin Hendrickson and Justin Wiggins spearheaded the offensive attack with key feeds from Alec Lindberg.

Bedford Youth Lacrosse Spring Kick Off

The Bedford Cannons Youth Lacrosse Travel season opens this Saturday, March 20th 11:00am at the Bedford High School Field. The boys U13A travel squad will kick off the first of six consecutive boys travel team games. On Sunday March 21st, the Bedford Lady Cannons U11 travel team takes to the High School field at 12:00 noon for the first of six more consecutive games.

The following weekend the teams again take to the High School Field. On Saturday March 27th the games begin at 4:00 and run until 8:00. Sunday the games begin at 10:00 am and go until 6:00pm.

Following is a schedule of the games over the next two weeks. Come and enjoy some fast action Lacrosse and cheer on your fellow Bedford Lacrosse Players!

2010 Online Registration has closed

Registrations for the 2010 Bedford Youth Lacrosse Association Boy’s travel teams have closed. All rosters are full and we are now on a wait list for our U13 and U15 programs. If you still wish to register and be placed on the list, please contact our Boy’s Coordinator, Mike Desroche at mdesroche@insadjserv.com.

There is still room in our U11/Rec. program and we will continue to take registrations for this age group (10 and under to age 7). If you wish to register for this group, contact Roger Howe at rbh2lax@comcast.net.

There is limited space in our Girl’s U13 and U15 program. However, there is still plenty of room in the U11/Rec. program for girls. If you wish to register for these groups please contact our Girl’s Coordinator TJ Karanasios at tj@sportsandrehab.com.

Please note that registration for the 2011 season will begin in November 2010.

2010 Rosters are closing soon!

We are coming to a close on the rosters for the 2010 season. There are limited spaces available on the travel teams at this time. We are going to be moving several players up a division from the U11 and U13 brackets. The number of spots available can change as we near the tryout date. If you are interested in being considered as a candidate to move up an age group, please forward your name to me as soon as possible.

We plan of having the candidates practice with the age group they will potentially be moving up to during the skills sessions. All candidates will have to make the tryout date on February 16th and make a travel team whether they be A, B or C.

BYLA Open House

The Bedford Youth Lacrosse Association will be hosting an “Open House” for the 2010 season, Thursday November 12th 7:30 – 9:00 at the McKelvie Middle School. Any boy or girl age 7 to 14, interested in playing outdoor, spring lacrosse is encouraged to attend.

The 2010 outdoor lacrosse season runs from the middle of March to the middle of June. No experience is necessary to sign up. BYLA offers a recreation lacrosse program to boys and girls under the age of 11 and travel teams U11, U13 and U15. Representatives from the Bedford Youth Lacrosse Association will be present to provide information about this fast-paced and exciting game and to answer any questions children or parents may have about the sport. Adults who are interested in helping as volunteers (coaches, sponsors, team parents, etc.) may also attend.

All players interested in the travel lacrosse teams (levels U-11, U-13 and U-15) are highly encouraged to register now. Due to increased membership, the 2010 roster positions will be limited. Returning players will be placed on a first come basis. Players can register by going to the BYLA website www.bedfordcannons.org.

Cannons In the News

Bedford Youth Lacrosse would like to congratulate the following players for making the rosters on the U-13 and U-15 Fall NH Tomahawks select team. These teams will be playing in several tournaments throughout the fall. The first tournament, the Blazer’s Cup was played the weekend of October 24th where the U-15 team placed first and the U-13 team placed second. Future tournaments will be held at Bryant College in Rhode Island and the Bulldog Classic in New Haven, Ct at Yale University.

2010 Registration is Live!

Players and Parents,

I hope your Fall is going well. I want to thank the members that attended the Membership Meeting last Thursday night at McKelvie. The discussions were productive and informative. I also want to inform the membership that the following officers to the Board were elected at the Membership Meeting as well.
