Bedford Youth Lacrosse Game Summaries

Girls U13A

The U13A Girls Travel team overcame an early deficit and took control late in the 1st half on their way to defeating Amherst 9-7.  Jess Cloutier in goal kept Bedford in the game early as Amherst took a quick 2-1 lead on very aggressive play.  Bedford battled back and were lead in scoring  by Lauren May (2), Kennedy Boyle (2), and a goal a piece by Sam Caveny, Carly Caveny, Mandy Faxon, Zoey Shapiro and Kayleigh Moquin.  Sam Hornsby had a solid game on defense and Maddie Speaker and Lexi Tilton won many crucial ground ball situations

Boys U11 Red

No wind, cold or confusion over the same colored shirts could stop Bedford’s power against Derry. The U-11 Red beat Derry 14-4. Goals were scored by Roland Bryan, Reid Kirkpatrick, Charley Speaker, Gavin Shilling, Stephen Simpson, Zac Tucci, Brendan Joyce, Devin LaFrance, Jacob Rioux, Joe McHugh, Danny Mullen and Ryan Bleakley. Great passing, face-off’s, and determination sealed the deal. Charley Speaker led the board with assists coming up with 5 for the day. Strong goal tending by Jacob Rioux and Ryan Bleakley helped keep the opposing teams score down, along with continuous defensive strength by Max Marchand, Michael Etzo and others. The score was high but the play was intense, Bedford fought for and earned every goal!

Boys U15B

On Saturday the Bedford Boys U15B team traveled to Dover to take on Oyster River in the rain. In what appears to becoming a trend, Oyster River took the opening face-off and immediately scored on Bedford taking the early lead. Oyster River then played ball control for much of the first quarter until Bedford answered tying the game at 1-1. From that point forward the Cannons controlled the game leading to a 12-2 NHYLA league victory. Stifling defense by Tom O’Rourke, Peter Christafides, Andrew Biedermann, Trent Fortune, Billy Gamble and Jake Sonberg in goal turned back the Oyster River offense all day. Scoring for Bedford were Tyler Sullivan (3 goals), Matt Tetu (2 goals), Justin Irvine (2 goals), Sam Stanton (2 goals) Dylan Mundis, Mike Dee and Jake Laughlin.

Boys U13B

The Boys U13B team was unable to handle a determined Goffstown team losing 6-11.  Sam Richmond, Logan Major and Tucker Levigne played admirably in defeat.  Nate John was strong in net until he was injured.  His replacement, Cole Johansen, was also strong in net posting impressive save numbers.  Goals were netted by Colin Hendrickson, Logan Major and John Valvo

IMPORTANT TEAM INFORMATION FOR 2010!

Parents and Players,

BOYS:

If you are age 10 and under and wish to be considered for a U11 travel team, please email us at president@bedfordcannons.org. The evaluation for the two teams we will field in NHYLA is February 16th at NH Sportsplex at 5:00pm. The two teams will be split evenly with an equal number of experienced and less experienced players. There is no A, B, or C classification in this age group. However, because there are only two experienced head coaches available for this group we will only have 40 spots for two teams. Players that are evaluated and are not placed on a travel team will be placed on one of our eight Rec. teams. Any player in this age group that does not wish to be considered for a travel team will be guaranteed a spot on one of the teams in our Rec. program.

Boys playing in the U13 and age groups that wish to tryout for the “A” or “B” teams must submit their intentions via email to Roger Howe (president@bedfordcannons.org) before the February 16th tryout at NH Sportsplex. Time of the tryout will be at 6:00 pm. There will be three teams this year in each division, an A, B, and C. All registered players as of February 1st that are not on a wait-list are guaranteed a spot on one of these three teams. Once the A and B team is chosen the remaining C team will be formed.

If you have questions you may contact Mike Desroche (mdesroche@insadjserv.com) our Boy’s Coordinator or President, Roger Howe (president@bedfordcannons.org).

All players are encouraged to attend so that they are appropriately placed.

GIRLS:

If you are age 10 and under and wish to be considered for the U11 travel team, please email us at president@bedfordcannons.org. This team will be comprised of players from all four of our Rec. teams. The team will have an extra practice each week and play an NHYLA league game on Sundays. The players will also have their regular Rec. team practice each week and play their Rec. team games on Saturday morning.

Players in the U13 age group that wish to be considered for the “A” team must send their intentions to do so to us by February 16th. The tryout time for this team will be 6:00pm at NH Sportsplex. There will be two teams, an A and a C, in this group and all players registered are guaranteed a spot on one of these teams.

The U15 team will be playing as an “A” level team and still has several openings.

If you have questions you may contact TJ Karanasios (tj@sportsandrehab.com) our Girl’s Coordinator or President, Roger Howe (president@bedfordcannons.org).

All players are encouraged to attend so that they are appropriately placed.

THE PROCESS:

The evaluations (U11) and the tryouts (U13 and U15) are conducted with the help of experienced and skilled lacrosse evaluators. Each team is assigned two evaluators that are NOT affiliated with the team they are evaluating and are for the most part outside the BYLA program. The head coach for each team is the third evaluator and has final decision-making power on players that have been evaluated with equal skills and athletic talent. If a player is not at the evaluation/tryout, he/she will be placed based on the coaching staff’s knowledge of their abilities.

An added consideration is made in the U11 program where a player’s size and safety may enter into what team he/she may end up on.

2010 Rosters are closing soon!

We are coming to a close on the rosters for the 2010 season. There are limited spaces available on the travel teams at this time. We are going to be moving several players up a division from the U11 and U13 brackets. The number of spots available can change as we near the tryout date. If you are interested in being considered as a candidate to move up an age group, please forward your name to me as soon as possible.

We plan of having the candidates practice with the age group they will potentially be moving up to during the skills sessions. All candidates will have to make the tryout date on February 16th and make a travel team whether they be A, B or C.

U11 >>>>U13

U13>>>>U15

Contact me or Mike Desroche (mdesroche@insadjserv.com) if you have any questions.
