Bedford Youth Lacrosse Game Summaries
Boys Rec Lacrosse
Bedford Cannon’s Team #6 opened its season with shutout goaltending by Alex Bleakley; goals by Derek Moscillo and Anthony Bobo; and several groundballs by Joey Lupo and Evan May.
Bedford Cannons Team #4 opened the season with a strong overall team effort against a talented Team 3. Midway into the first half, Connor Berry scored the team’s first goal, dodging defenders and firing a strong shot between the pipes. On Attack, Matt Giroux followed in the second half with a fast break to the net and a solid shot past the goalie for the team’s second goal. There were strong defensive efforts made by Kiernan Humphrey and Nate Jedow stripping the ball away from the offense gaining position of the ball for the team. Our two goalies, Cam Macdonald and Drew Fessenden stayed busy in the net stopping blistering shots.
Team 5 started the season off in a learning format as much of the team is new to the game. We were able to mount some exciting offense with shots on goal by Will Detscher, Ethan Van Heerden and Ryan Bobotas. This was backed up by strong midfield play by Zachary Verow and at the attack position by Nathan Verow. On the defensive side of the ball, Team 5 had outstanding goalkeeping by Andrew Twite with 6 saves and solid defense by both Jared Neikam and Zach Kearns
Team 7 opened the season with excellent team-play allowing them to defeat a spirited Team 8. Goals were scored by Connor Campbell-Diehl, Conner Murray, Jack Wolf, Will Jordan and Jed Heald with key assists contributed by Anthony Sanchez, Logan Jurnak and Sam Froio. Logan Jurnak and Conor Mullin played strong in goal.
Girls Rec Lacrosse
Girls Rec team #4 started the season with outstanding offensive performances by Sophia Bemmis, Hannah Richmond, and Mykenzie Kyle, all scoring goals. On defense there were stand out efforts by Corra John and Haley Froio .
We had some outstanding hustle on the field by Mykenzie Muir and Emmy Plage . Great job playing Middie by Caroline DeLisle and Marissa Johnson – both played an awesome game.
Marrissa Johnson and Mykenzie Kyle shared the game in goal.
Boys U15B
On Saturday the Bedford Boys U15 team faced off against Timberlane here in Bedford. The Cannons came out first, scoring two early goals. Timberlane answered the Cannons with their own two goals forcing a tie going into the half. Bedford responded after half time with four straight goals taking a 6-2 lead into the fourth quarter ultimately solidifying the victory 7-4.
Scoring was lead by Justin Irvine (Four goals) and Tyler Sullivan, Ross Burton and Mike Dee with one goal each. Assisting the goals were Duncan Kirkpatrick (two), Tyler Sullivan(two) and Dee and Burton with one each.
Defensively the Cannons played an overall solid game with Jake Sonberg and Todd Glynn sharing time in the goal.
Boys U15 A
Bedford Boys U15A Lacrosse opened the 2010 season with a pair of lopsided wins this weekend. On Saturday, Bedford beat Groton-Dunstable, 17 – 1. Bedford scoring included 4 goals by John Miller, 3 goals from Alex Astarita, 2 goals each from Dan Colella, Aaron Palys, John Karanasios, and Evan Tyros, and 1 goal each from Andrew Casey and Nick Vailas. On Sunday, Bedford defeated Concord, 15 – 1. John Miller scored 3 goals, Alex Astarita, Dan Collela, Aaron Palys, Grant Mello, and Mike Vailas each contributed 2 goals, and Evan Tyros and Andrew Casey each scored a goal.
Boys U15C
The Boys U15C team took opening game of the season by defeating Amherst 6-2. Bedford took the early lead with goals by Michael Collins & Alden Skillings. Mat Dyer & Ryan Wittenberg solidified the win with follow-up goals in the 2nd half. Great offensive support by Marcus Graves, Sean Looney, Robbie Gawlowicz & Nick Demaio helped Max Whittaker & Michael Robinson in critical assists in each scoring play. Solid defensive work by Austin Couture & Jeremy Pariseau kept the ball out of the Bedford scoring zone. Chris Conery held fast in goal with critical saves during many Amherst scoring attempts.
Boys U11Red
Bedford U-11 Red played a stunning season opener defeating Amherst 13-2. Through impressive skills, teamwork and coaching Bedford came out and dominated from start to finish. This dominance was noticed starting from the first play and continuing all the way through. Bedford won the game opening faceoff with Brendan Joyce immediately attacking bringing the ball up and passing to Ryan bleakley for an initial save but Joyce recovered the ball fast passing to Gavin Shilling for the first goal of the season, and one of many goals for the day. Bedford continued their scoring rally with goals from: Joe McHugh, Reid Kirkpatrick, Stephen Simpson, Charlie Speaker, Brendan Joyce, Danny Mullen (2), Zac Tucci, Jacob Rioux (2), Stewart Kirkpatrick, and Ryan Bleakley. Jacob Rioux and Danny Mundis took turns successfully guarding Bedford’s net with the help of solid defensive play from Michael Etzo, Ethan John, Gavin shilling and many others. Bedford played a game to be proud of with consistent effort, skill, and most importantly team work!
Boys U13B
The Bedford Boys U13B team posted a season opening win of 10-8 against a relentless Cocheco team on the road in Dover.
Nate John and Cole Johansen split time between the posts to limit Cocheco to 8 goals. Chris Carlson, Ray Etzo and Paul Toscano played tough defense, holding off a late game rush by the Cocheco attackmen. Logan Major, Sam Richmond and Tucker Lavigne worked hard to control the middle of the field. Colin Hendrickson and Justin Wiggins spearheaded the offensive attack with key feeds from Alec Lindberg.
