Bedford Youth Lacrosse Game Summaries

Boys Rec Lacrosse

Bedford Cannon’s Team #6 opened its season with shutout goaltending by Alex Bleakley; goals by Derek Moscillo and Anthony Bobo; and several groundballs by Joey Lupo and Evan May.

Bedford Cannons Team #4 opened the season with a strong overall team effort against a talented Team 3. Midway into the first half, Connor Berry scored the team’s first goal, dodging defenders and firing a strong shot between the pipes. On Attack, Matt Giroux followed in the second half with a fast break to the net and a solid shot past the goalie for the team’s second goal. There were strong defensive efforts made by Kiernan Humphrey and Nate Jedow stripping the ball away from the offense gaining position of the ball for the team. Our two goalies, Cam Macdonald and Drew Fessenden stayed busy in the net stopping blistering shots.

Team 5 started the season off in a learning format as much of the team is new to the game.  We were able to mount some exciting offense with shots on goal by Will Detscher, Ethan Van Heerden and Ryan Bobotas. This was backed up by strong midfield play by Zachary Verow and at the attack position by Nathan Verow.  On the defensive side of the ball, Team 5 had outstanding goalkeeping by Andrew Twite with 6 saves and solid defense by both Jared Neikam and Zach Kearns

Team 7 opened the season with excellent team-play allowing them to defeat a spirited Team 8.  Goals were scored by Connor Campbell-Diehl, Conner Murray, Jack Wolf, Will Jordan and Jed Heald with key assists contributed by Anthony Sanchez, Logan Jurnak and Sam Froio.  Logan Jurnak and Conor Mullin played strong in goal.

Girls Rec Lacrosse

Girls Rec team #4 started the season with outstanding offensive performances by Sophia Bemmis, Hannah Richmond, and Mykenzie Kyle, all scoring goals.  On defense there were stand out efforts by Corra John and Haley Froio .

We had some outstanding hustle on the field by Mykenzie Muir and Emmy Plage .  Great job playing Middie by Caroline DeLisle and Marissa Johnson – both played an awesome game.

Marrissa Johnson and Mykenzie Kyle shared the game in goal.

Boys U15B

On Saturday the Bedford Boys U15 team faced off against Timberlane here in Bedford.  The Cannons came out first, scoring two early goals. Timberlane answered the Cannons with their own two goals forcing a tie going into the half. Bedford responded after half time with four straight goals taking a 6-2 lead into the fourth quarter ultimately solidifying the victory 7-4.

Scoring was lead by Justin Irvine (Four goals) and Tyler Sullivan, Ross Burton and Mike Dee with one goal each. Assisting the goals were Duncan Kirkpatrick (two), Tyler Sullivan(two) and Dee and Burton with one each.

Defensively the Cannons played an overall solid game with Jake Sonberg and Todd Glynn sharing time in the goal.

The Boys U15C team took opening game of the season by defeating Amherst 6-2.  Bedford took the early lead with goals by Michael Collins & Alden Skillings.  Mat Dyer & Ryan Wittenberg solidified the win with follow-up goals in the 2nd half.  Great offensive support by Marcus Graves, Sean Looney, Robbie Gawlowicz & Nick Demaio helped Max Whittaker & Michael Robinson in critical assists in each scoring play.  Solid defensive work by Austin Couture & Jeremy Pariseau kept the ball out of the Bedford scoring zone.  Chris Conery held fast in goal with critical saves during many Amherst scoring attempts.

Boys U11Red

Bedford U-11 Red played a stunning season opener defeating Amherst 13-2. Through impressive skills, teamwork and coaching Bedford came out and dominated from start to finish. This dominance was noticed starting from the first play and continuing all the way through. Bedford won the game opening faceoff with Brendan Joyce immediately attacking bringing the ball up and passing to Ryan bleakley for an initial save but Joyce recovered the ball fast passing to Gavin Shilling for the first goal of the season, and one of many goals for the day. Bedford continued their scoring rally with goals from: Joe McHugh, Reid Kirkpatrick, Stephen Simpson, Charlie Speaker, Brendan Joyce, Danny Mullen (2), Zac Tucci, Jacob Rioux (2), Stewart Kirkpatrick, and Ryan Bleakley. Jacob Rioux and Danny Mundis took turns successfully guarding Bedford’s net with the help of solid defensive play from Michael Etzo, Ethan John, Gavin shilling and many others. Bedford played a game to be proud of with consistent effort, skill, and most importantly team work!

Boys U13B

IMPORTANT TEAM INFORMATION FOR 2010!

Parents and Players,

BOYS:

If you are age 10 and under and wish to be considered for a U11 travel team, please email us at president@bedfordcannons.org. The evaluation for the two teams we will field in NHYLA is February 16th at NH Sportsplex at 5:00pm. The two teams will be split evenly with an equal number of experienced and less experienced players. There is no A, B, or C classification in this age group. However, because there are only two experienced head coaches available for this group we will only have 40 spots for two teams. Players that are evaluated and are not placed on a travel team will be placed on one of our eight Rec. teams. Any player in this age group that does not wish to be considered for a travel team will be guaranteed a spot on one of the teams in our Rec. program.

Boys playing in the U13 and age groups that wish to tryout for the “A” or “B” teams must submit their intentions via email to Roger Howe (president@bedfordcannons.org) before the February 16th tryout at NH Sportsplex. Time of the tryout will be at 6:00 pm. There will be three teams this year in each division, an A, B, and C. All registered players as of February 1st that are not on a wait-list are guaranteed a spot on one of these three teams. Once the A and B team is chosen the remaining C team will be formed.

If you have questions you may contact Mike Desroche (mdesroche@insadjserv.com) our Boy’s Coordinator or President, Roger Howe (president@bedfordcannons.org).

All players are encouraged to attend so that they are appropriately placed.

GIRLS:

If you are age 10 and under and wish to be considered for the U11 travel team, please email us at president@bedfordcannons.org. This team will be comprised of players from all four of our Rec. teams. The team will have an extra practice each week and play an NHYLA league game on Sundays. The players will also have their regular Rec. team practice each week and play their Rec. team games on Saturday morning.

Players in the U13 age group that wish to be considered for the “A” team must send their intentions to do so to us by February 16th. The tryout time for this team will be 6:00pm at NH Sportsplex. There will be two teams, an A and a C, in this group and all players registered are guaranteed a spot on one of these teams.

The U15 team will be playing as an “A” level team and still has several openings.

If you have questions you may contact TJ Karanasios (tj@sportsandrehab.com) our Girl’s Coordinator or President, Roger Howe (president@bedfordcannons.org).

All players are encouraged to attend so that they are appropriately placed.

THE PROCESS:

The evaluations (U11) and the tryouts (U13 and U15) are conducted with the help of experienced and skilled lacrosse evaluators. Each team is assigned two evaluators that are NOT affiliated with the team they are evaluating and are for the most part outside the BYLA program. The head coach for each team is the third evaluator and has final decision-making power on players that have been evaluated with equal skills and athletic talent. If a player is not at the evaluation/tryout, he/she will be placed based on the coaching staff’s knowledge of their abilities.

An added consideration is made in the U11 program where a player’s size and safety may enter into what team he/she may end up on.
